Dr Olympia Tsilochristou has now started her own private practice and can be reached via info@myallergyclinic.uk
Olympia has over 10 years of experience in Allergy and is a Consultant Allergist at the UK’s largest Department of Allergy at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation Trust in London.
Olympia qualified in medicine in 2005 and completed higher specialist training in Allergy in 2014. She undertook her PhD on allergic rhinitis with a particular focus on local allergic rhinitis which is a form of allergic rhinitis that may be underdiagnosed because of the negative skin prick and blood tests to respiratory allergens. Upon completion of her specialist training in Allergy, Olympia spent 1 year working as a researcher in molecular Allergology at Charite University in Berlin, Germany and subsequently joined the research teams led by Professors Lack, du Toit and Till at King’s College London where she investigated the links between food allergy and eczema and participated in clinical trials on peanut oral immunotherapy and a preclinical trial looking into vaccines against peanut, egg and milk allergy. Her research work is published in leading peer-reviewed Allergy journals.
Olympia has co-authored the European Guidelines on Allergen Immunotherapy for Allergic Rhinitis amongst other and has expertise in allergic rhinitis, local allergic rhinitis and allergen immunotherapy for allergic rhinitis. In addition to her research background, Olympia’s expertise in food allergy is enhanced by her NHS experience as she is one of the two clinicians doing the Food Allergy Clinic at Guy’s Hospital where she reviews teenagers (16 years old and above) and adults with food allergies including those who suffer with eczema with a view of identifying potential food triggers for their eczema. She also reviews numerous patients with urticaria and hypersensitivity reactions to drugs.
Olympia has a passion for best practice in Allergy and is the Quality Improvement and Audit Lead for Allergy at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation Trust. She is also keen on the optimization of the curriculum of the Allergy specialty training and belongs to the very small group of experts across Europe who defined the European Training requirements for the specialty. She has served as an invited Faculty member in international European, American and Mexican annual congresses and has sat for years on the Executive Committee of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
In her spare time Olympia never misses out on swimming and is a keen cooker influenced by her Greek roots.
