Allergy London is delighted to announce a new treatment option for babies and children with Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES). This approach involves the gradual, carefully controlled reintroduction of trigger foods over several months.
Developed by a specialist team at BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, early experience suggests that many children may be able to progress towards eating their trigger food freely within 9–12 months, with reactions during treatment typically being mild.
This approach may also help reduce some of the nutritional and quality-of-life challenges associated with prolonged food avoidance, as well as potentially reducing other allergy-related consequences.
Treatment is offered following a specialist assessment and shared decision-making with families, with an individualised treatment plan developed for each child.
